There are so many things I adore about fashion. I know what you're thinking. ADORE.Really, Meghan? Adore?Don't you think that word is a bit oh shall we say over-dramatic?
Nope. It's not. And if you're still shouting into the computer screen at me that it is, well my ears are plugged with my fingers and I'm shaking my head from side to side with my eyes closed. So there. Probably the two things I love most about fashion is its vulnerability and capability. Fashion, to me, doesn't come from the runways or magazines. It comes from the inside of you. It's who you are on the outside of yourself.
I can't deny that I am a pretty observant person. I love to find the details around me. And sure as you & me, I can spot good fashion with the best of them. No, my eyes aren't trained like those of Armani, Chanel or Dolce & Gabbana. But, I can quickly spot confidence. And, to me, confidence is where opportunity meets personality. With those 2 in the mix, clothes become much more than covering. They becoming vessels for sharing your strength.
I love when my eyes find strength. Even when an outfit I would never wear catches my attention, I still soak it in. Strength. It's electric and inspiring to me. Fashion comes from within. So often I think people struggle with finding their fit and feeling worth. Lots of times I would imagine people hide behind labels or the security of the price tag to deem themselves up to style par. Don't get me wrong. I swoon so often at the front of the store mannequins and color palettes of the season. I read style blogs too. But, I never want who I am to hang in the balance of a designer tag or hefty price.
Jordache is a company that's been around since 1979. It reveled in the style world with labels like Gloria Vanderbilt and Liz Claiborne back in the day. I can remember owning a few pairs of their jeans when I was a little girl. Up until about 3 months ago, my closet was void of this brand.
But Goodwill changed all that for me.
The high waisted jean and me became BFFs. Oh, yes we did. I found the gray jeans you see above at my local Goodwill for $5.99 less 50% off. They spoke to me on the rack I tell you. These girls were the vintage Jordache mom jean. And I bought them. The back pockets have these great shimmer threading strips down the center with exterior back flaps to boot. This is a clutch look for those oh how shall I say it? Posteriorly challenged.
I have worn them several times since the purchase. And I am here to report that the high waisted mom jean makes you feel. Um, safe. Your crack is totally covered. Your gut is cinched. There is a hoisting motion that is involved when it comes to the fastening of these bad daddies. I am here to report that the low rise jeans of the 21st century have brought forth a lazy revolution of AhEm letting it all hang out. One step into the high waisted jean, and you are quickly reminded of posture. Or, lack thereof.
Then what to my wondering eyes should appear? But Jordache for today's times on my rear.
That's right peeps. These skinny crop leopard print jeans are, in fact, J-to-the-ache. I spotted these big boys on the clearance rack at my local Wal-mart for $2.97. I gotta tell you I am all kinds of swoony in-love with them. They have the slightest shimmer sheen to them. My metabolic heart rate beats a wee bit faster when I wear these.
And it would appear Barbie dream curls are the by-product of said elevated heart rate. I found the red infinity scarf you see here at Wal-mart too. It was $5.97 and worth every.darn.penny. All other pieces to this leopard print puzzle were Goodwill purchases minus the booties. I've worn these pants with a navy oxford and short boots. With countless retro tees and tennis shoes too. They fit is not too loose, yet not too tight.
Fashion is everything and all in one. It's finding pieces and making them yours. It's confidence. It's breathing out what you love. It's the opportunity to share strength through the one-dimensional. It's not the dollar spent or the label on the inside. And best of all, fashion doesn't have an expiration date.
Then & now. Still. Life is fashionable.
