get down on it.png Saturday.  That's right. I hear you. This day is straight made for fantastic.  It's got laid back written all over it. Even if your to-do list is a mile long, Saturday pelts out production in a breezy playonplaya kinda way.  It's the downshift that we love. Crave even. The transition from work week to whew-breathe-unwind for just a quick sec.  It's the time for flapjacks.  Catching up or sleeping in.  It's detox from the daily that devours us Monday-Friday.

In the same breathe, Saturday exhales regroup.  It's picking up odds-n-ends.  Sitting in the bleachers or on the soccer sidelines too. Summer time sun soaking.  Boat trolling.  Yard sales & farmers markets with fresh garden goodness.  Saturday is for extra and for the necessary.  There ain't nothing quite like a Saturday.

Who us?  Well, I'm still in my jammies on my 3rd cup o'joe.  The boys are dressed and dazzled by their elongated entertainment time for all things iPad and iPod.  Kenny has researched some shelving ideas for the garage and is currently catching a little Madden Football as I type.  For us, today looks like a trip to the dump, some sewing preparations and restocking for the work week ahead, prepping for a yard sale, cleaning vehicles, dissecting through the garage otherwise known as the monster that lives behind closed doors and grilling out hamburgers on the back porch for dinner.

I'm reading these days.  And I'm in #revampcamp, remember? In what feels good to type. To share.  To express.  I'm researching the topic of joy. And I am uncovering more about how vulnerability works alongside with joy preservation.  It's super cool and kinda something I've felt all of my life.  Weird how researching brings me to a place of soul confirmation and yet at the same time rejuvenation.

Kool & The Gang.  Um, yeah.  They're like permanently on my life's playlist.  Specifically,Get Down On It. Know this ditty?  Oh, come now.  Sure you do.  If you don't, well go listen.  I luh-ove this jam.  My hiney CANNOT be still with this tune in my ears.  I adore the medley of imperative sentences intertwined with the interrogatives.  Here's a copy of the lyrics.  Go see for yourself.  It's really a song about living.  How you gonna do it if you really don't wanna dance by standing on the wall?

Get your back up off the wall.
Dance.
Come on.

It says nothing about being prepared or being pretty.  It just commands action.  Groove. Right.where.you.are.  In the simple.  In the everyday.  In the time meant for work and then time set aside for play.  Get down on it.  Being a lover of dance myself, I can guarantee you the wall is the last place where you'll find your groove.  It's flattening and gives you absolutely no room for a good twirl.  And I can think of all kinds of walls that we build up ourselves that inhibit the fruition of a jam.  Around us, they stifle joy.  They sabotage smiles.

Saturday.  That's right. I hear you.  I'm taking this day to make my own dance floor.  No walls. All groove.  Hoping just the same for you.

Get your back up off the wall.
Dance.
Come on.
