Wardrobe & Words
Words like nestled and warbled soothe my soul. Woo & catapult do just the same. Marmalade, juxtapose, effervescence too. I eat words and they make me stronger. My skin becomes more true. My gut more functioning I s'pose. Pressing letters. In & out. Their presence reminds me I am human. Just like you. With grocery lists & fumbling fingers. We both struggle to get the bandaid open & on the wound. Yes. Human & moving. You & me.
I won 3rd place in an essay contest in 8th grade. The topic? Americanism. And naturally, I wore my navy & white boatneck Jessica McClintock dress with red Sam & Libby's to the awards ceremony. I tingled when they called out my name. Third gave me a place.
High school brought me things like grammar and status. And high school lost my place. For letters. Pressing them together for movement died. Fear & failure are real. And those haints lived inside my locker. Crouched & cowardly, I handed back my plastic polished gold of 3rd. I removed myself from words. And that's when the best part of me went into hiding.
Have you ever hidden from what makes you real? It's the crippling of self. It's squeezing into a size 6 shoe when you know you're an 8. It's holding all the cards of glory & joy in your hand only to call out a lackluster go fish just to keep the game in play. Unassuming. Unreached. Unavailable.
All because of fear.
Oh, but authenticity is a beast. A massive giant with club in hand. Arms strong and voice boisterous, he defends. YOU. He lives out a little more loudly each day you let him. And God loves the giant. He gave us each one for safe spirit keeping I do believe.
I am taking the month of October to celebrate the giant in us all. 31 days of letters pressed will happen here in this place. And I am excited for so many reasons. Reasons that remind me of humanness. Of hope. And of authenticity.
I have joined forces with a heap of heroes you'll meet later this week. These people have been invited to serve as guest authors in my space. I've hand picked heartbeats from my life who serve as supplements of strength, passion and light. Humans doing. Making ways for themselves & others, these contributors are trinkets of hope in my chest. They're my reminders of giant living.
I also wanted October to be a month for others on my front porch of fashion. Each Thursday you'll meet a new model with her very own frugal story. It is my hope to show you that the look for less is available for all. Not just ones with giraffe necks & legs like me. The goal for my Cheap Thrills Thursday in month #10 is to present to you new faces wearing a minimum of three Goodwill finds. These penny pinching pieces will be infused into their outfit for a fresh Fall look. I can hardly wait to share these ladies with you!
October: 31 Days. A Celebration of Wardrobe & Words.
Third. It will forever be my place. Gold plastic & polished, I'm learning to rest easy there the older I grow. For the girls with red Sam & Libby's. And for the ones quiet and shaking inside their locker. I press letters for you. And for me. Those bandaid tabs are hard for us all to effort open. I'm so thankful for a God who loves the giant & safe spirit keeping.
The deadline for holiday custom orders from k.Mac is NEXT Wednesday, October 1. I wanted to assemble a gifting guide to better serve those on the fence as for just what pillow design to choose as a handmade under the tree. While k.Mac offers an array of gifting options from hand poured candles to baby items, handbags and leather jewelry too, k.Mac's pillow line is such a popular choice. Should you be interested in custom designing with k.Mac, feel free to email me at meghan@kmaccreations.com.
