criss-cross reminders
Petite criss-cross reminders there on my hip. Tiny bows I never even knew existed. Fashioned quaintly on a garment I knew nothing of. I had no idea if I could, in fact, fit its capacity. But, I found her. Or, perhaps maybe she found me. Either way, it matters not. Criss-crossing reminders can heal.
Fashion seems so surface. So shallow in first thoughts. You know, the ones that wash over you before you really have time to implement notions like good people protocol and management of manners for society's sake.
My mind knows this so called fickle addiction of the one dimensional necessities thanks to Adam. And to Eve. But I can't fully agree that the shallow end of the closet is where this material expression belongs.
Clothes are choices. They are ones that create this artistic representation of you. It's tights & stripes because I feel full of life today. Or to the world, I feel so small & out of place. Cover me more, please.
Fashion isn't for the fool hearted & face keepers. It's not a service we render for one-upping or wow, look what I have & you don't. Fashion is simply the matching up of our insides a little more to our out.
Finding pieces that are you in garment form. Like a canvas, your colors run, swish & stroke your best beautiful.
Petite criss-cross reminders there on my hip. This was her dress. Made in high school as a 4-H project, I stumbled upon it going through a box of her things. My eyes watered wet & heavy as i took note of her colored pencil sketches from the project's inception. And then felt the pink dimples of finished there in my hands.
I wanted it so badly to fit. I wanted her once more. And fabric was the closest I could get. Mom and I saw fashion differently. It was a struggle to be my best beautiful in her eyes. The healing is hard even now as there are no fusses over shoes to wear or what I should be doing with my hair.
